Quantifieur flottant

Un quantifieur flottant est un quantifieur qui ne précède pas immédiatement le NP qu'il quantifie.

Tous, en français, en est un exemple prototypique:

• (Tous) les étudiants ont (tous) lu ce livre

Le quantifieur peut précéder le NP les étudiants qu'il quantifie, mais il peut aussi flotter pour ainsi dire en dehors du syntagme auquel il appartient. Pour Sportiche (1988), par exemple, le second tous est situé dans la position in situ du sujet à l'intérieur du VP.

Le breton a au moins deux quantifieurs flottants: holl et tout.

Ce phénomène n'est pas typologiquement rare. Il existe des quantifieurs flottants en allemand, en néerlandais, en malgache, en thai, en chinois, en japonais, en coréen, en hébreu... et une littérature scientifique abondante à leur sujet.
