Phonologie

 Fleuriot & Fleuriot (1977:23):
"Falc'hun (1951) "Le système consonantique du Breton, based mainly on his own dialect of the Bourg Blanc, north of Brest, has been a milestone in [the study of phonotics and phonology]. Previous works, especially Smith (1946), must be read after studying Falc'hun's book. We may, however, still find useful information in old studies such as that of Parry-Williams (1913) comparing Welsh and Breton sounds. Hemon (1955) and Bernier (1967) wrote useful remarks about the Breton dental spirant, and we must not overlook Pennaod's studies (Pennaod 1965, 1966a, 1967, 1973) on Breton phonology. Humphreys (1972) has furnished valuable evidence on the strong sonants in the Breton dialect of Haute-Cornouaille (Kerne-Uhel). But the basic work on Breton phonology is now the monumental book by Jackson (1967) under the title A Historical Phonology of Breton. It is both historical and synchronic in scope. It gathers the substance of everything previously written on the matter. While giving an accurate description of the development of the Breton language, it also tries to show the main facts about the present dialects."
