V2 est l'acronyme désignant un ordre de mots dans la phrase où l'élément tensé est en seconde position.

En breton, l'élément fléchi, c'est-à-dire celui qui porte les morphèmes du temps et éventuellement de l'accord avec le sujet, est le verbe lexical ou l'auxiliaire. Cet élément doit être au moins en seconde position dans la phrase. Il serait plus exact de parler d'ordre T2 (ordres à temps second) car dans les temps composés, un verbe infinitif ou participe peut se trouver dans de multiples autres endroits dans la phrase.


Il existe en breton quelques exceptions où l'élément fléchi est en première position (ordres à verbe initial, ou V1).

Il existe aussi une série limitée d'éléments qui peuvent apparaître dans une phrase devant un ordre V2, ce qui obtient un ordre V3. C'est par exemple le cas lorsqu'on trouve le sujet devant la négation.

L'ordre à temps second est charactéristique des phrases matrices, mais il existe de tels ordres de mots en enchâssées.

On trouve aussi des ordres T2 en enchâssées (C-VSO): après les complémenteurs penaos, ha(g), la(r), rak, hogen...

Analyses

Il existe de nombreuses anlyses formelles qui essaient de dériver les ordres de mot à verbe second dans les langues germaniques ou en breton, ou les ordres à clitique second des langues slaves.


les auxiliaires en breton ne sont pas des clitiques

Phillipps (1996) a proposé que les auxiliaires en breton sont en fait, comme dans les langues slaves, des clitiques qui doivent s'attacher à un verbe lexical sur leur gauche. Cependant, les auxiliaires bretons n'ont par ailleurs aucune des propriétés des clitiques. De plus, l'ordre T2 touche aussi les phrases sans auxiliaires avec un verbe lexical tensé.


réalisation du domaine CP

Hendrick (1990:129) propose que toutes les positions du domaine CP doivent être réalisées en breton en structure de surface. Depuis les années 90 cependant, le domaine CP s'est considérablement aggrandi et une telle règle prédirait des ordres de mots bien plus nombreux devant le verbe tensé.


Horizons comparatifs

Il existe de nombreuses langues à verbe second, dont les plus connues sont les langues germaniques (sauf l'anglais moderne). Dans les langues romanes, on trouve l'ordre T2 en vieux français (Roberts 1993), et en vieil italien (Franco 2009b:149).

Dans de nombreuses langues, des effets de placement à la seconde place sont rapportés dans le domaine du syntagme nominal, comme en vieil italien (pour une analyse en terme de mouvement de la tête nominale en , voir Poletto 2012, 2015).

Diachronie

Selon Koch (1991:3), l'ordre des mots (préféré) du gaulois était à verbe second.
